INNER QUEST
~ WE ARE STARS WRAPPED IN SKIN, THE LIGHT YOU ARE SEEKING HAS ALWAYS BEEN WITHIN. ~
- Rumi
Deep in the Amazon rainforest lived the peaceful Senbia tribe. Small and isolated they led a simple, spiritual existence, taking pride in their culture and ancestral teaching.
In contrast to the Senbians, were the Fero tribe. Lead by the ferocious Rabin, who favoured power and possession, the Feroians conquered many smaller clans, amassing them into a single population.
But as their numbers grew, so too did the feuds. Beliefs clashed, leading to conflict. While a fierce warrior, Rabin was at a loss. Seeing no way to resolve the unrest, he sought out Kena, the leader of the Senbians.
“I always believed I could derive happiness from power,” confided Rabin, “but I have found no contentment. Instead, I am always anxious. I fear everything I have built will implode and destroy my legacy. And all because these senseless fools refuse to get along.”
Kena studied the conqueror in front of him, silently noting the other’s superiority and pride.
“Help me,” continued Rabin, “I have come to be enlightened by your wisdom.”
With a knowing smile, Kena beckoned for Rabin to follow him. He led his petitioner to the Circle of Contemplation. This hallowed ground was where generations of Senbians would seek spiritual guidance.
Rabin looked around him but saw nothing of note. Just a circular wall of monolithic stones that enclosed a small pool at its centre.
“Go, look,” encouraged Kena.
So, Rabin approached the calm waters and gazed within. Yet all he saw was his face, staring back at him.
“I don’t see anything,” he muttered, in frustration.
“What you see,” answered Kena, “is a reflection of you. I tend to see myself mirrored in others. And that makes me treat everyone as equals, with love and understanding.
Now do you see?”
